Cloud egress FAQ for FinOps readers
PipeToll is FinOps-lite cloud egress education: path-template compares, Unknown-until-verified rates, and synthetic Mode A/B/C calculators — not a broker, pricing API, or savings guarantee. Browse every compare spoke below or start at the AWS egress path checklist.

Short answers on scope, honesty rules, egress meters, and what this brand is not.
What is PipeToll?
PipeToll is an educational site on cloud egress and data-transfer costs with honest calculators and path-template compares. FinOps-lite. Operated by Ameti One LLC. Distinct from ProofWindow.
Is this a pricing API or broker?
No. Educational content and self-hosted estimators only. No checkout, no guaranteed savings. Display ads authorized for Ameti One LLC await a publisher ca-pub ID — see money-status and About.
Why do titles say Cloud egress?
To disambiguate from American pipe-tolling / infrastructure toll brands. Every page titles cloud egress education.
Are the calculator numbers quotes?
No. Synthetic educational estimates using editable $/GB tiers and labeled NAT/origin modes (Mode A, Mode B, Mode C). Always verify on provider consoles and invoices.
Do you guarantee savings?
No. We never guarantee savings. Architecture, free tiers, and contracts dominate outcomes. Read what PipeToll will never guarantee.
Who is the legal entity?
Ameti One LLC. Contact [email protected].
Is housing or AdSense part of this brand?
Housing products are parked elsewhere. Display ads / AdSense are authorized for Ameti One LLC but script stays off until a real ca-pub ID is configured (money-status ads=awaiting_ca_pub). No invented publisher IDs.
Is the domain live?
Yes — apex pipetoll.com is owned with HTTPS live. INDEX LIVE after Harvard GO 2026-09-09 (index, follow). www→apex 301 is active; pages.dev should stay noindex via CF Transform Rule.
What is the difference between egress and ingress?
Egress is data leaving a cloud boundary (often billed). Ingress is data entering (often free, but verify load-balancer or processing charges). See glossary: egress and ingress.
What is the NAT triple-charge pattern?
An educational stack: NAT Gateway hourly fees + per-GB NAT processing + Internet data-transfer-out. Cross-AZ hairpins can add a fourth meter. See NAT vs Internet Gateway and calculator Mode B.
How do cache hit ratio and origin fill relate?
Origin fill ≈ client download GB × (1 − CHR) × inflation. Misses drive origin egress, which may sit on a different bill than CDN edge bandwidth. Use calculator Mode C and CDN origin fill.
What is a free-tier cliff?
The point where complimentary egress or bandwidth allotments end and list $/GB charges begin. Full matrix: AWS Internet egress free-tier cliff · glossary.
How is cross-AZ different from Internet egress?
Cross-AZ (cross-zone) is usually internal regional transfer between availability zones. Internet egress leaves toward public clients. See cross-AZ vs cross-region and the AWS egress path checklist.
Why do some cells say Unknown?
PipeToll refuses invented list prices. Until a human cites a dated provider page for a region and SKU, the cell stays Unknown until verified — see methodology.
S3 direct or CloudFront origin — which meter?
Different path classes. Start with S3 direct vs CloudFront origin path; estimate fills with Mode C when CHR matters.
